Why Apple Killed The MacBook Pro (Ewan Spence via Forbes)

“Apple’s MacBook Pro remains an iconic product, but over the last few years Cupertino has pushed it back into the shadows. Why is today’s MacBook Pro is a pale imitation of the original masterpiece.” (Ewan Spence Consumer Tech, Storyteller exploring digital worlds, mobile, music and podcasting)

I think, I concur with Mr. Spence, author of above linked article: Since the passing of the late Mr. Steve Jobs and with Tim Cooke picking up the baton as Apple’s CEO, I couldn’t help but notice the company’s shift from daring technology innovator and leader to becoming your household “me, too”-tech products peddler And today, the company that had customers, press, competitors exclaim with “ahs” and “oohs” at their rock-concert-like keynote events looks dangerously close to a one-product-company, a one-trick-pony in the world of technology gadgets and machines.

I’m fairly sure the “old man” would not have approved of this transition into yet another name that sells technology – and in many areas and regards the company isn’t ahead of the curve any more, but a late follower. You see more “firsts” or quicker product maintenance with Google or Amazon these days as they push the envelope with their range of products and services.

So, I have a hard time getting as excited any more as I used to get when product announcements prior to another big keynote event leaked. And to me personally the Mac Book Pro was dead with the 2012 edition as later models reintroduced soldered-on memory! (I mean, come on – seriously?) But who knows… maybe they’ll eventually come around? Never give up hope.
